AADSTS50076: Using multifactor authentication

Issue

When using Username and Password authentication with Microsoft 365 Scope, you encounter the following error when trying to authenticate: "AADSTS50076: Due to a configuration change made by your administrator, or because you moved to a new location, you must use multi-factor authentication to access <yourApplicationID>."

This error occurs when the user performing the authentication has multifactor authentication (MFA) enabled or enforced. MFA can be enabled per user or per organization, or enforced through Conditional Access Policies. For more information, see Set up multifactor authentication for Microsoft 365.

Solution

Disable MFA for the specific user performing the authentication or exclude them from the policy that enforces MFA. For enhanced security, you can enforce Conditional Access Policy based on IPs, not users. Reach out to your Azure administrator for more information.
