About the Mail activity package

The Mail Activities Pack is designed to facilitate the automation of mail-related tasks.

Note:

The UiPath.Mail.Activities pack is compatible with the following Microsoft Outlook versions:

  • 2013
  • 2016
  • 2019
  • Office 365

App Integration Activities

The activities grouped under App Integration cover various protocols such as IMAP, POP3, and SMTP, or are specialized in working with Outlook and Exchange.

Activities such as Save Mail Message and Save Attachments are not intended to be used with certain mail protocols. Instead, they save the MailMessage object variable retrieved from activities such as Get POP3 Mail Message to a specified folder on the current machine.

For Exchange, the Mail Activities Pack contains the Exchange Scope activity, which is a container that can establish a connection to an Exchange mail server and perform various tasks within it, such as deleting, retrieving, moving or sending mail messages in a single run.

Note:

The UiPath.Mail.Activities pack is compatible with the following Microsoft Exchange versions:

  • 2007
  • 2010
  • 2013
  • Office 365

Integrations Activities

The activities grouped under Integrations are newer mail activities that were initially designed for the StudioX profile. These activities can automate the Outlook desktop application, Outlook 365 online and Gmail accounts.

Note:

Before you can automate Outlook 365 online and Gmail, you must set up connections to the services in one of the following ways:

  • Use the dedicated connectors from the Integration service in UiPath Automation Cloud. This enables you to easily add a connection or select an existing connection from the Use Outlook 365 and Use Gmail activities. This option is available starting with UiPath.Mail.Activities v1.11.0.
  • If you are not using the Integration service:

    • For Outlook 365, configure an application in the Azure AD. You can either create your own or use the UiPath default application. For more information, see Configuring the Azure AD for Outlook 365 Automation.
    • For Gmail, either use the UiPath default application (no further configuration required) or set up your own application in Google Cloud.

To remove the need for Studio users to provide the application credentials when adding their accounts from the Use Outlook 365 or Use Gmail activities, the application credentials must then be added as assets in Orchestrator. For more information, see Adding Application Credentials for Outlook 365 and Google Workspace in Orchestrator.

Starting with Studio v2021.10 and UiPath.Mail.Activities v1.11.0, the design experience that was previously available only in StudioX is also available in the Studio profile:

  • The activities are available by default in the Activities panel under Integrations > Gmail and Outlook.
  • When you add the Use Outlook 365, Use Gmail, or Use Desktop Outlook App scope activities, you can configure mail activities added inside them by browsing the accounts and selecting data that matches the type of a property directly from the Plus menu of each property, without having to manually enter expressions. You can indicate Outlook folders, Gmail labels, the email selected in the Outlook desktop app when the project is executed, the current mail in an iteration, or message fields such as Subject, Body, Body as HTML, Bcc, Cc, To, From, Date (as text), and Priority.
