Local setup for RPA workflow and app projects

Studio Web is evolving how automations are designed and run.

RPA workflow projects and app projects in Studio Web now leverage your local machine, delivering faster performance, fewer design-time errors, and a more stable experience overall. This shift also unlocks new capabilities that go beyond RPA, including Windows and desktop automation support (coming soon) and an improved macOS experience.

To make this possible, UiPath Assistant must be installed and running on your machine. To view, design, and run RPA projects and app projects, a one-time setup is required.

What has changed

Previously, Studio Web used cloud machines provisioned in the background to view, design, and run RPA and app projects.

Now, Studio Web uses the UiPath Robot installed on your machine to view, design, and run workflows. UiPath Assistant must be installed and running for this connection to work.

This change applies only to RPA workflow projects and app projects. Other project types, such as agents, API workflows, and agentic processes, continue to use cloud execution as before.

Vorteile

BenefitBeschreibung
Faster performanceLeverages your local machine hardware for quicker run and debug cycles, with full hardware access and no cloud limitations.
Expanded automation support (coming soon)Enables Windows and desktop automation scenarios not supported by cloud execution.
Improved macOS experienceFaster and more reliable UI Automation workflows on macOS.
Fewer design-time errorsReduces cloud connection dependencies and ensures a more stable design experience.
Terminal accessGives you access to a terminal directly in Studio Web when working with local files.

Anforderungen

To view, design, and run RPA and app projects in Studio Web, you need to complete a one-time setup:

  1. Install or update UiPath Assistant - Download and install UiPath Assistant (macOS) or Robot 26.0.190+ (Windows). If you already have Assistant installed, make sure it is updated to version 26.0.190 or later.

  2. Sign in to Assistant - Open Assistant and sign in to the same organization as your Studio Web account.

  3. Browser permissions - Depending on your browser:

    • Chrome and Edge: Allow the browser to access apps on your device when prompted. Note that this may be restricted by your organization's IT policies.
    • Safari: Install the UiPath browser extension for connectivity.
  4. Licensing - A licensed robot (attended) is required. If you do not currently have a license, contact your organization admin to ensure one is allocated to your account.

Once connected, Studio Web detects Assistant automatically each time you open an RPA Workflow or App project. No additional setup is needed.

Das ist zu erwarten

When you open an RPA Workflow or App project, Studio Web checks if UiPath Assistant is installed and connected:

  • If Assistant is not installed or connected: A banner message appears at the top of the designer, which guides you through the setup steps. The setup flow detects your operating system automatically and provides the appropriate installer.
  • If Assistant is already running and connected: Studio Web performs a brief connection check and you can start working immediately.

Unterstützte Plattformen

This setup is supported on Windows and macOS. Users on Linux, mobile, or tablet devices cannot view, design, or run RPA Workflow and App projects in Studio Web.

Fehlersuche und ‑behebung

If you run into issues during setup, check the following:

  • Make sure Assistant is updated to version 26.0.190 or later.
  • Confirm that Assistant is signed in to the same organization you are using in Studio Web. If Assistant is connected to a different organization, Studio Web asks you to log in.
  • On macOS, make sure Assistant is open. Studio Web requires Assistant to be actively running to establish a connection.
  • On Chrome or Edge, verify that the browser permission to access local apps is enabled. Your IT team may need to configure this.
  • On Safari, confirm that the UiPath browser extension is installed and active.
  • If the designer takes a while to load after connecting for the first time, this is expected as Studio Web downloads required dependencies. Subsequent sessions are faster.
