Perplexity activities migrated to Perplexity's Agent API

Correction: these release notes initially announced the Chat Completion migration on September 28. The Perplexity activities were migrated on September 30, so the details are now listed under this date.

Perplexity is retiring its Sonar Chat Completions API (supported until September 27, 2026) in favor of the new Agent API. To keep your automations running, UiPath migrated every Perplexity activity and the Completed Asynchronous Chat Job trigger to the Agent API. Existing workflows keep working, and saved Sonar model IDs are mapped to the matching preset automatically.

Because the Agent API differs from the Chat Completions API in request and response structure, the output format, citations, or model behavior may differ slightly. Re-test any workflows that parse the output of these activities.

Changes to the activities

• Model in Chat Completion and Generate Async Chat Completion now offers presets: fast, low, medium, high, and xhigh. The r1-1776 model is no longer available, and saved workflows that use it now run on the medium preset.
• Both activities have new optional fields: Instructions, Maximum steps, and Reasoning effort. Reasoning effort is available for the medium, high, and xhigh presets.
• Temperature and Top p are available only for the fast preset. For every other preset, their values are not sent.
• Top k, Presence penalty, Frequency penalty, and Search mode are no longer available, because the Agent API has no equivalent. In Generate Async Chat Completion, a saved Search mode value of academic or sec now fails the request.
• In Chat Completion, provide either Prompt or Message content. In Generate Async Chat Completion, Role is now optional.
• Get Async Chat Object and the trigger now return a Vendor status field with the raw Perplexity job status. Jobs that Perplexity reports as cancelled or incomplete return FAILED.
• The trigger now shows its output fields in the designer.

List Async Chat no longer supported

The Agent API has no endpoint for listing jobs, so List Async Chat is no longer available in the designer, and existing workflows that use it fail. To check on a job, use Get Async Chat Object with the ID returned by Generate Async Chat Completion.
