Classic Integrations Activities
Insert ServiceNow Record
UiPath.ServiceNow.Activities.InsertRecord
The Insert ServiceNow Record activity uses the the ServiceNow Table - POST API to insert a new record object.
ResponseStatus
object (ServiceNowStatus) that you can use in subsequent activities (e.g., conditional logic).
String
variable in the
object wizard (see example below).
This activities package provides three different methods to insert a record: Insert ServiceNow Record,Upsert Records, or Insert ImportSet Records.
TheInsert ServiceNow Record and Upsert Records activities use REST APIs to write directly to a production table. The Insert ImportSet Records activity uses the REST Import Set API to write to an import set table from which the data gets transformed into the target production table.
To avoid inserting records directly into production tables, it's recommended that you use the Upsert ServiceNow Record activity to insert a new record.
For detailed information, including troubleshooting import set performance, see import sets in the ServiceNow documentation.
To learn more about using import sets, see Web service import set and Importing data using import sets in the ServiceNow documentation.
The following steps and message sequence diagram is an example of how the activity works from design time (i.e., the activity dependencies and input/output properties) to run time.
- Complete the Setup steps.
- Add the ServiceNow Scope activity to your project.
- Add the Insert ServiceNow Record activity inside the ServiceNow Scope activity.
- Click the Configure button inside the Insert ServiceNow Record activity (this opens the Object Wizard).
- Select the Object you want to insert and add the fields (with values) you want to populate.
-
Create and enter a
ResponseStatus
variable for the Output property.- Your input property values are sent to the Table - POST API.
-
The API returns the
ResponseStatus
value to your output property variable.
To enter your Insert ServiceNow Record property values, you must use the Object Wizard by clicking the Configure button.
To learn more about the Object Wizard, see the Business Activity Frameworks page.
- sys_id - The id of the ServiceNow record that gets created. Enter a
String
variable. The sys_id is auto-generated by ServiceNow when you insert your new record. To retrieve this value for use in other activities, create and enter aString
variable in the object wizard (example shown below).
Advanced
- AdditionalFields - A
DataRow
that includes the columns and values that you want to insert. The column names must match the names as they appear in the ServiceNow database table for the selected object type.
Common
- DisplayName - The display name of the activity. This field supports only
Strings
orString
variables.
Misc
- Private - If selected, the values of variables and arguments are no longer logged at Verbose level.
Output
-
ServiceNowStatus - The status of the request (success/failure information). Enter a
ResponseStatus
variable (UiPath.BAF.Models.ResponseStatus). TheResponseStatus
object includes three properties that you can use in other activities.- Success -
Boolean
- Specifies whether the API request was successful. - ErrorCode -
String
- The response error if the API request is unsuccessful (Success=False). - Message -
String
- The error message.
- Success -
The following image shows an example of the activity dependency relationship and input/output property values.
