Activities overview

Note: The information on this page applies to the latest versions of the activity packages.

Activities are the building blocks used in UiPath Studio to design automation projects.

An activity can be defined as a piece of a puzzle. You need multiple activities, connected to each other, to create the entire puzzle represented by the workflow. The complexity of activities varies from simply defining a variable to configuring them by using custom wizards.

All activities are grouped based on their use case into packages that cover certain areas of interest.

You can manage your activity packages by using the activity feeds available at the application level or at the project level.

Default activity packages in new projects

The following table lists the activity packages available by default in UiPath® Studio as dependencies for all newly created projects depending on the profile and the project compatibility. UiPath Studio comes with two profiles:

• UiPath Studio offers a large variety of tools for designing complex attended, unattended, and testing automations;

• UiPath StudioX enables business users with little or no coding experience to automate their tasks.

You can add additional packages by using the Manage Packages button directly from UiPath Studio. The process of adding new packages and updating the existing ones is explained on the Managing Activities Packages page.

Starting with Studio 2023.10, most Integration Service activities are not part of individual packages and can be added only from the Available category of the Activities panel or Add activity search bar. A single package, UiPath Integration Service Activities is installed as a project dependency when you first add an available Integration Service activity, and the activities are not displayed in the Installed section of the Activities panel. Activity packages release lifecycle

The activity packages have preview releases recommended for users on the Community plan and stable releases recommended for Enterprise users. For information about support periods, see the General Support Terms. For information about supported versions, check the activities lifecycle.

We recommend to always upgrade the activity packages to the latest versions so you can enjoy them at their full capabilities. Release notes are available for all activity packages and you can check them under each activity package section. You can also subscribe to our newsletter and receive product updates directly in your email inbox.

Project compatibility in Studio Desktop

Only packages and activities that support the selected project compatibility can be installed in a project. Packages don't always support all compatibilities, and within a package certain activities may only be available for some compatibilities. To find out more about project compatibility support:

• See the supported compatibilities per package in the table in the UiPath activity packages section on this page (the columns under Studio Desktop project compatibility). If a package is listed as supporting a compatibility, this means that at least one version of the package includes activities that support that compatibility.
• For details about supported compatibilities within a package, a Project compatibility page is available in the documentation for each package. If the supported compatibilities are not the same across all the activities in a package, the supported compatibilities are listed per activity on the project compatibility page.

Note: The Windows - Legacy compatibility is being phased out. We recommend using the Windows or cross-platform options for new projects. If your automations require activities that are only available in Windows - Legacy projects, you can continue to use this compatibility. We will offer support for opening, editing, and executing Windows - Legacy projects until all activities are available in Windows or cross-platform projects.

Activity packages in Studio Web

Studio Web enables you to create cross-platform automations for online apps and services directly from a web browser. The packages available in Studio Web are managed by UiPath. See the packages available in Studio Web in the table in the UiPath activity packages section on this page (Studio Web column).

UiPath activity packages

Official UiPath packages are available on the following feeds:

• Local feed - the feed for the activity packages installed locally with UiPath Studio and Robot. It contains packages that are default dependencies for new projects.
• Official feed - the official online UiPath feed, where you can find all the activity packages we officially support.

See the table below for a list of official UiPath packages. The following information is available for each package:

• The category the package belongs to: UI Automation, Productivity, Document Understanding, Integration Service, IT Automation, Workflow, Developer, or Classic Integrations.
• Whether the package is available on the Local feed.
• Whether the package supports Integration Service connections.
• Whether the package supports coded automations.
• The project compatibilities supported by the package in Studio Desktop and whether the package is available in Studio Web.
