Copy, paste, and delete controls
Copy, paste, duplicate, and delete app controls in UiPath Apps Studio and Studio Web using the keyboard or the tree view.
When you design an app in UiPath Apps Studio or in Studio Web, you can copy controls and paste them on the same page, on another page, or in another app. Pasted controls keep their properties, expressions, and rules, and get new names so they do not clash with existing controls.
Keyboard shortcuts
The app designer uses Windows-style shortcuts on every operating system, in both UiPath Apps Studio and Studio Web. On macOS, press Control, not Command: Command+C and Command+V do not copy or paste controls.
| Action | Windows and Linux | macOS |
|---|---|---|
| Select several controls | Ctrl+click | Control+click or Command+click |
| Copy | Ctrl+C | Control+C |
| Paste | Ctrl+V | Control+V |
| Delete | Delete | Fn+Delete |
| Undo | Ctrl+Z | Control+Z |
| Redo | Ctrl+Y or Ctrl+Shift+Z | Control+Y or Control+Shift+Z |
| Save | Ctrl+S | Control+S |
The shortcuts act on the canvas. They do not work while the canvas is collapsed or the rules designer is maximized.
Copy and paste controls
- On the canvas, select the control you want to copy. To copy several controls, hold Ctrl (Control or Command on macOS) and select each one.
- Press Ctrl+C.
- Select where the copies go:
- To paste into a container, select the container.
- To paste next to a control, select that control. The copies go into the same container.
- Press Ctrl+V.
Paste controls into another app
- Copy the controls in the source app, as described in Copy and paste controls.
- Open the destination app, in the same browser tab or in another tab.
- Select where the copies go, and press Ctrl+V.
- If the browser asks for clipboard access, allow it.
The pasted controls keep their expressions and rules. If they reference resources that the destination app does not have, such as entities, processes, or app variables, reference those resources in the destination app to resolve the errors. To move a whole page instead, see Page export and import.
Duplicate a control
Select the control and press Ctrl+C, then Ctrl+V (Control+C, then Control+V on macOS). With the original still selected, the copy goes into the same container. In the tree view, you can also select the three dots icon (...) next to the control and select Duplicate.
Delete a control
Select the control on the canvas and press Delete (Fn+Delete on macOS). In the tree view, you can also select the control and press Backspace, or select the three dots icon (...) and select Delete.
For some items, the app designer asks you to confirm before it deletes them.
Limitations
- Cut (Ctrl+X) is not available. To move a control, copy it, paste it, then delete the original.
- Delete removes one control at a time.
- The code of an HTML Text control is not copied. Copy its HTML and CSS from the control's editor instead.
- In app projects in Studio Web, undo and redo shortcuts are not available.
