2023.4 Enterprise Release

Release Date: 27 April 2023

Things are moving fast and so are we! Our first LTS release of the year, 2023.4, is here, and we are thrilled to have you read its release notes on a brand new documentation website.

Besides this, we have added quite a few interesting updates and new features to our products, as summarized below.

In Orchestrator, you can manage tags directly from a dedicated portal, restrict classic folders, or create a video recording for automation jobs. You can live stream and remote control unattended jobs in the Automation Suite deployment of Orchestrator, and use advanced search in the Data Service entities, integrate Insights with Automation Hub and leverage SQL server capabilities in Apps.

Enhance your debugging experience in Studio with live streaming, search activities in all official packages, or streamline your work by automatically generating variables from activity outputs. Additionally, the Properties panel is available for all activities, Data Manager received multiple updates, applications and URLs can be tracked, and many more. Most of the features are also available in the StudioX profile.

The UiPath Assistant now allows you to share automations from shared folders, and see the progress of your automations in the new Running Tab. Coming soon is the new Excel Add-In, which brings the Assistant functionalities closer to your actual work. The robot received some important updates, besides some bug fixes, multiple robots can use the same shared folder on a machine, and the start time of automations is reduced with the help of the pre loaded executor.

Create trigger-based attended automations, such as contact center scenarios, feedback processes, or alerts, with the help of our new Forms, Callouts, Triggers, and Global Variables. To get started with the new attended automation solution, see the dedicated tutorials.

What's New

Trigger-based attended automation

Studio now includes a trigger-based attended automation solution, allowing you to build highly responsive automations by using triggers for various application or user events. The benefits are: improved performance, the ability to automate multiple scenarios or run them at the same time.

Using Forms, Callouts, Triggers, and Global Variables you can automate a wide range of common use cases, such as contact center scenarios, feedback forms, and digital adoption platforms, among others.

For more information on how to leverage the capabilities, see the Trigger-based Attended Automation chapter.

Excel Add-in

Starting with the 2023.4 release, you can access the UiPath Assistant from Microsoft Excel. Use the UiPath Assistant for Excel Add-in to engage with your automations directly from Excel, without shifting between applications.

Live Streaming and Remote Control + Job Recording

Remote debugging of job executions is now a friendlier affair with the help of our new one-stop-shop solution: live streaming and remote control. This allows you to watch an unattended execution while it is happening, and, if problems arise and debug is needed, to take remote control of the execution and try to fix it. Additionally, you can now benefit from an extra layer of efficiency when troubleshooting jobs. This is due to our new video recording feature, which is available at the process level for all unattended executions (currently only available as preview).

Pre loaded Executor

Performance improvements were made for the start-up of a process. Whenever you start the Robot, by default, an additional executor is launched automatically. Read more in the Robot executor documentation.

Package folder sharing across robots

Multiple user-mode robots can now share the package files on the same machine. This is configurable using the NUGET_SCRATCH machine environment variable, and set the path of a temporary folder as its value. Read more about this in our documentation.

Running tab in Assistant and aharing automations

The UiPath Assistant received some improvements to its interface and user experience, this would mean some accessibility improvements, an updated Help section, and many more. At the same time, when you start an automation, you can see its progress on the Running tab. The status messages are time-stamped and indicate when a specific action is complete. These messages are configured using the Report Status activity.

Improvements to activities management in Studio and StudioX

Finding the right activity for your cross-platform projects is now easier, as you are able to search through all available packages without having to install a package in advance. Studio now automatically creates a variable for each activity output that can be used in other activities throughout the workflow. In addition, The Properties panel is available for configuring advanced properties in activities with the new design as well.

Applications and URLs tracking in Studio and StudioX

Studio and StudioX can now track what external applications and URLs are targeted by an automation, providing insights into the automation workflow. This information is available for Windows and cross-platform projects after publishing in Orchestrator, Insights, and Automation Hub. App tracking requires the latest versions of activity packages to be installed.

Insights Cross-Tenant Reporting

With cross-tenant reporting, you can now measure metrics across multiple tenants in the same region for your UiPath deployments. If you are an organization administrator, you will now see a new tab called Organization, where you can view and filter cross-tenant dashboards on specific tenants in the same region.

For more information on this, check the Cross-tenant reporting page.

Automation Suite Active/Passive deployments

We are happy to announce the General Availability of Disaster Recovery in Active/Passive configuration. Now you can configure Automation Suite in a way that can withstand the complete failure of nodes, entire data centers, or even regions.

Automation Suite on FIPS 140-2-enabled machines

Other good news is that you can now install Automation Suite on machines on which you enabled FIPS 140-2 (Federal Information Processing Standard). In addition to that, you can also enable the standard on machines where our suite is already installed.

External Docker registry

It's also worth mentioning that you can now configure Automation Suite in an offline setup using your own external Docker or other OCI-compliant registry. You can do that either during the default installation, using the Automation Suite interactive installer, or as part of the advanced installation.

New language support for Document Understanding

We have extended our language coverage for Document Understanding. We now support documents in Chinese, Japanese and Korean, and we provide right to left languages support. The UiPath Document OCR can now also coverage Latin-based East European languages and provides French and German support for handwriting recognition.

Computer Vision integrated in Unified Target

Computer Vision is now part of Unified Target as a new targeting method. Computer Vision is an important AI powered targeting image-based technology that in some cases is the only one that can be used to reliably automate an application, so it can be a powerful fallback for the other targeting methods. Use cases span from Computer Vision being used atomically to automate certain areas/UI elements that the Driver cannot drill into, to VDI automation where Computer Vision is the only viable technology, and everything in between.

UI Automation SAP WebGUI support

We added support for reliable automation of SAP WebGUI using hardware events, including accurate identification of elements, stable attributes prefixed with sapweb-ls (for LightSpeed controls) or sapweb- (for SAP Scripting controls), and the ability to reliably use UI Automation activities with Hardware Events (Click, Type Into, Select Item, etc.). In this release, we added specific support for the following elements: SAP buttons (icons, push buttons, and radio buttons), SAP input fields, SAP dropdown lists, and SAP checkboxes.

Upcoming Removals

Classic folders restriction

In October 2021, we announced the deprecation of classic folders.

In April 2022, we announced their removal.

In October 2022, we launched a wizard which assists in the migration of classic folder objects to modern folders, while keeping the existing structures and hierarchies.

We are now continuing this process by disabling executions in classic folders, along with a few other changes. It is hence more important than ever that you migrate your classic folders to modern folders, so as to ensure uninterrupted service.

Deprecation timeline

We recommend that you regularly check the deprecation timeline for any updates regarding features that will be deprecated and removed.
