Release Notes

Last updated Dec 19, 2024

October 2020

2020.10.1 - LTS

Release date: 28 October 2020

October is here, and so is our latest release. This year has been all about challenges, adapting to new rules and working together closer than ever while being physically apart. Through it all we have remained focused on building a better automation platform for you. We worked on new hundreds of new features, improvements, bug fixes and also small tweaks to make using our products a greater and more enjoyable experience than ever!

This page mentions our cross-component features of the v2020.10 release. Find out more about each individual product by accessing the links in the Release Notes per Product section.

What’s New

Requirements Update

Starting with v2020.10, we dropped support for Windows 7.

Starting with v2020.10, we support Microsoft Azure Windows 10 Enterprise Multi-Session.

Interactive Sign In

docs image docs image docs image docs image docs image

For a smoother experience integrating our products, a new way of deploying our products is here!

Interactive Sign In takes care of the part in which you need to create individual machines or machine templates for each robot as they are created seamlessly in the authentication process. On top of that, the Robot and Studio are connected automatically to Orchestrator and licensed based on user identity. All of this is happening in the authentication process, thus reducing user friction to a minimum and removing the need for administrators to spend time creating a machine for each Robot.

Interactive Sign In also allows the user to connect Studio directly to Orchestrator and receive instant access to queues, entities, assets, and processes tied to its account based on the permissions inherited either individually or provided via the user group they are a part of in Orchestrator. While signing in for the first time, a Personal Workspace is automatically created in which processes can be published and updated from Studio and can also be removed directly from the UiPath Assistant.

Implementing this feature has been a joint effort from all our teams and extensive amounts of time and resources have been invested in reaching the end goal: making everyone’s work easier while improve usability for both users and administrators.

Data Service

docs image docs image

Studio features integration with Data Service that offers data modeling and storage capabilities. In the Data Service, you can create entities to store data that can later be used in automation projects. From within Studio, import entities and collect, update, and pass data to other processes.

By using entities created in the Data Service, you can manage and manipulate data aggregated in a single object. This means that you no longer need to pass large numbers of variables and arguments between processes and workflows, and you can use the same organization-specific data types across all UiPath services.

Create and Share Templates

docs image docs image

You can now create and publish your own templates in the same way as you do processes. Build templates with a particular set of dependencies and workflows with already defined variables and arguments, and save time by creating new projects based on your templates.

Sharing templates with others is as simple as publishing them to Orchestrator. You can access your templates and those shared by others from the new Templates tab in Studio.

Always Running Processes

docs image docs image

To increase the level of control you have over your processes as an administrator, we've added the Always Running Process option on the Process Setting page in Orchestrator which restricts process termination via the UiPath Assistant.

Personal Workspaces

docs image docs image

Processes that were published in Personal Workspaces can now be removed directly from the UiPath Assistant without the need to access Orchestrator for this, making it easier to clean up any process that is no longer needed.

Picture in Picture

docs image docs image docs image

Picture in Picture (PiP), the feature that enables you to run attended automations in a separate session, has graduated from experimental to generally available. Test a process in PiP and mark it PiP Ready to indicate that it can be executed in Picture in Picture, and mark it Starts in PiP if you want to make it the default option when executing the published process.

New OCR Options

Any OCR engine can be now developed as an Activity that is compatible with the UiPath suite, by using the public UiPath.OCR.Contracts package. Open the package in your Visual Studio project and start building your own custom OCR Activities.

UiPath Document OCR is a state of the art, general purpose deep-learning-based OCR, which can be used both as a Service, as well as On-Prem (available in AI Fabric or as a standalone Docker container). It is now publicly available for processing West European languages (English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian) on native or scanned documents containing dense or sparse text for the following file types: .pdf, .tiff, .png, .jpg, .bmp.

Together with UiPath Screen OCR, UiPath Document OCR is now automatically available if you are using the latest UiPath.UiAutomation.Activities package. If not, you can install and use the UiPath.OCR.Activites package separately.

Abbyy Document OCR activity offers enterprise customers 250,000 Abbyy OCR units free of charge to be used in Document Understanding and PDF processing scenarios. The activity can be found in the UiPath.AbbyyEmbedded.Activities package. You can now use the FineReader engine directly, without installing it.

Document Classification & File Splitting

In case you need to process a file that contains multiple documents, the Intelligent Keyword Classifier is here to help you classify and split document types. It is capable of learning, so do check out its companion Intelligent Keyword Classifier Trainer which goes into the Train Classifiers Scope. The Intelligent Keyword Classifier can be used both as a Service, as well as On-Prem, through the support of AI Fabric.

Classification Station is a new feature that enhances human-robot collaboration by allowing humans to review and correct document classification and splitting results. It can be used both as an attended activity (through Present Classification Station) as well as integrated in Orchestrator’s Action Center by leveraging Long-Running Workflows (through Create Document Classification Action and Wait for Document Classification Action and Resume).

The Machine Learning Extractor is now fully integrated, from prediction to feedback loop. Use the Machine Learning Extractor activity within the Data Extraction Scope (with one of the public endpoints for data extraction or with your own custom model hosted in AI Fabric). Then, use the Machine Learning Extractor Trainer activity with the Train Extractors Scope, to collect feedback data from human validation and prepare it for ingestion back into the underlying ML model.

Licensing

Full Document Understanding product suite is now available for deployments both On-Premises and on Cloud and licenses can be tracked in On-Prem Orchestrator (enabled through AI Fabric hosted DU services) as well as in the Cloud platform.

Test Data Management

docs image docs image docs image

Decrease your time spent on testing by managing your test data through test data queues and synthetic test data creation. Through Synthetic Test Data you can create, manage, and provision your stateful test data. Whereas the Test Data Queues act as central storage in Orchestrator, so that you can prepare, store, and consume test data.

Unifying UIAutomation and UIAutomation Next

docs image docs image

The UIAutomation and UIAutomation Next activity packages have been unified under the UIAutomation v20.10.5 activity pack, containing the best of both worlds, now taking advantage of the new Unified Target technology, which brings all the methods of targeting UI elements together, making all your automation endeavors much easier.

Also, some activities have been reworked to support the Unified Target technology. Don't worry, though, we haven't removed their old counterparts from the package, you can simply opt whether to use them or not by selecting the Classic or Modern experience from the Settings tab in Studio.

Choosing the Modern experience also grants you access to the new App/Web Recorder, which is a single recorder to rule them all, replacing all previous UIAutomation recorders with a new anchor-based, multi-technology element identification system that makes recording your actions considerably easier and faster.

You can install the unified UIAutomation activity package even on Studio v2020.4.1 or lower. Doing this displays all the classic and modern activities in the Activities pane. Please note, however, that activities and wizards which require newer Studio/Robot versions than 2020.4.1 are not available in older versions.

Package Manager

docs imagedocs imagedocs imagedocs image

The amount of packages you can find on UiPath® activity feeds is humongous, and it grows by each passing day. This can prove to be a nuisance when searching for a package with a more common name, for example. We felt your pain and decided to do something about this. From now on, all UiPath official activity packs can be easily filtered in the Package Manager so you’ll be able to reach your favorite package in no time!
