Generating an SDD

Generate a Solution Design Document (SDD) from a confirmed PDD, the build-ready specification developers and Coding Agents use to build the automation.

Once the PDD is confirmed, Cartographer can generate a Solution Design Document (SDD) — the build-ready specification that developers and Coding Agents use to build the automation and orchestration on the UiPath platform. Where the PDD is the business-reviewable design, the SDD is derived from the same confirmed Map of Work.

Before you start

Note:

An SDD can only be generated after a PDD is completed and approved. Finish and confirm the PDD first — see Generating the PDD.

Solution design reads several files as it works, so it does best when it isn't boxed in:

• Guarded mode: Off, and Approval mode: Full access (or Smart or Adaptive)
• With Guarded mode on or a stricter approval mode, the agent may be unable to reach files it needs, or may interrupt with too many approval prompts

If a run stalls or asks for too many approvals, adjust these settings and retry — the phase is safe to re-run.

Workflow

Starting solution design

When the PDD is approved, Cartographer offers a Design the solution from the PDD suggested prompt — select it. If it isn't shown, prompt the agent directly with "design solution" or "create SDD."

Behind the scenes, Cartographer loads and uses the latest UiPath Planner skill, also published in UiPath's GitHub skills repository. Cartographer picks up the latest version automatically.

Choosing how design decisions are made

Partway through, the solution-design agent asks how you want to work:

• Autonomously — the agent makes the design decisions itself and pauses only at the required Case Review
• Interactively — the agent pauses at architecture checkpoints for your review along the way

Either way, expect the SDD phase to actively help you make important architecture decisions, offering recommendations grounded in the PDD and the conversation so far. When it finishes, you have a reviewable SDD you can publish to Automation Hub.
