# Recordings settings

> Record yourself performing a task on screen, to use afterward as the basis for a routine, a skill, or PDD source material.

Record yourself performing a task on your screen, to use afterward as the basis for a routine, a skill, or as source material for documentation such as a PDD.

Select **New recording** to start, or use the search bar to find an existing one. Switch between list and grid view.

Each recording captures your steps and which apps you used:

From a recording, you can:
- **Build routine** — turn the recording directly into a Routine.
- **More** — **Build skill** (a generalized knowledge skill), **Document AS-IS** (feeds Cartographer's AS-IS documentation), or **Add to business task** (files it under a Cartographer business task).
- **Show in Explorer** — locate the recording file on disk.
- **Delete** — remove the recording.
- Add optional notes (up to 250 characters) describing what the recording is for.
