Deep Dive With PiP

Picture in Picture has been thought and developed to provide a more immersive experience when using Attended Automation. A lot of times, when starting a process that needs to use the same applications or gestures as yourself, you cannot use the computer as you might break the workflow. With the introduction of Picture in Picture, a process that depends on applications on your screen can run in a separate session, allowing you to freely use your machine and complete your own tasks without the need to wait for the Robot to finish its own.

How to use it

1. When you need to run a process in PiP, from the Contextual Menu of a process, select Start in PiP.

   
   

   

   
   

2. The new session starts and logs you in automatically with the credentials from the main session.

   Note: If you are using a PIN to log in, you are asked for your username and password to start the PiP session.
3. After the login in the PiP session is completed, the process starts and executes, after the process is completed, the PiP session stays active. If you need to close it, it's enough to close the window and it will automatically stop any running process (if applicable) and sign you out from the PiP session.

Controls

The Assistant's design has been thought and developed to be as intuitive and easy to use. The Controls (or Toggles) can be found on the very top-right of the PiP window.

What does Multitasking with PiP actually mean?

Just as you are able to consume media while using the computer with the help of Picture in Picture, the work you have can be split in two different sessions with the help of PiP. Allowing you to be more productive and attentive on the tasks that require human contact while letting the other processes run without interrupting your work, the Picture in Picture feature is a step forward in using UiPath's Attended Automation.

As the Robot works in the PiP session, the Main session is free and you can access your files, modify documents, send e-mails, answer phone calls and other duties that can only be completed by you.

Common issues and limitations

• If you are using a PIN to log into the main Windows session, you are asked for your credentials every time you start a Picture-in-Picture session.

  • This happens because the PiP session relies on the Username and Password combination to start a new separate session on your machine. As the PIN is different from the Password, the login fails.

• When the Picture-in-Picture session is closed, it is possible that some settings for peripheral devices to be reset to their default values (such as lighting settings for keyboard and mouse).

  • Because your peripherals are also used in the new session, when closing it, the settings for peripherals are reverted to the main session. Depending on the configuration, some of them might get their settings reset.
