# Configuration Steps

> Enable native selectors for VMware Horizon by installing UiPath Remote Runtime on the remote machine and the UiPath Extension for VMware Horizon on the client.

Following the steps on this page enables you to build native selectors for applications and desktops virtualized through VMware Horizon and build your automation projects using UIAutomation activities and recording wizards.

## Installation prerequisites

To generate native selectors for VMware Horizon, the following components are required:

* Studio v2019.12 or greater on the client machine to install the Extension for VMware Horizon.
* VMware Horizon Client 3.4 or greater on the client machine.
* VMware Horizon Agent 7.0.0 or greater on the server for VMware Horizon Desktops.
* VMware Horizon Agent 7.1.0 or greater on the server for VMware Horizon Apps.

:::note
The following VMware Horizon Client types are **not** supported:
* VMware Horizon Client for Windows 10 UWP
* VMware Horizon HTML Access Web Client
:::

## Setting up the client

1. Open **UiPath Studio**.
2. Navigate to **Home** > **Tools** > **UiPath Extensions**.
3. Select **VMware Horizon** > **Install**. A confirmation dialog box is displayed.

**Result:** The **UiPath Extension for VMware Horizon** is installed.

If **UiPath Studio** is not installed on the client machine and only the **UiPath Robot** is present, you can install the **UiPath Extension for VMware Horizon** from the Command Prompt. To learn more, refer to [Extension for VMware Horizon](https://docs.uipath.com/studio/standalone/latest/user-guide/extension-for-vmware-horizon#from-the-command-prompt).

## Setting up the server

1. Download the `UiPathRemoteRuntime.msi` installer from:
   * **Product Downloads** in the [UiPath Customer Portal](https://customerportal.uipath.com/product-downloads?q=UiPath%20Remote%20Runtime).
   * **Download Center** in the [UiPath Automation Cloud](https://cloud.uipath.com/).
2. Install `UiPathRemoteRuntime.msi` on the VMware virtual machines where the applications to be automated are running.

For more details, refer to [About UiPath Remote Runtime](https://docs.uipath.com/studio/standalone/latest/user-guide/about-uipath-remote-runtime).

## Adding the UiPath virtual channel to the allow list policy

By default, standard virtual channels (such as audio, clipboard, and printing) are enabled. To enable a custom virtual channel such as the UiPath virtual channel, you must add the channel to the allow list policy.

1. Follow the Omnissa (formerly VMware) instructions to enable and configure the allow list policy:
   * [Enabling Virtual Channel Allow List in Horizon Agent](https://kb.omnissa.com/s/article/84156)
   * [Adding a Virtual Channel to the Allow List in Horizon Agent](https://kb.omnissa.com/s/article/84264)
2. Add the following value to the allow list policy:

   `UIPRDP,C:\Program Files (x86)\UiPath\RemoteRuntime\UiPathRemoteRuntime.exe`

:::important
After you install the **UiPath Remote Runtime** and the **UiPath Extension for VMware Horizon**, restart your active VMware Horizon connections for the changes to take effect.
:::

## Updating project dependencies

Native selectors for VMware technologies are only enabled if you add the `UiPath.UIAutomation.Activities` package v19.12 or greater as a dependency for your project.

1. In **UiPath Studio**, open the **Package Manager**.
2. From the **Project Dependencies** pane, select the **UiPath.UIAutomation.Activities** package.
3. Ensure that the selected package version is v19.12 or greater. If it is not, select the correct version from the drop-down and select **Update**.
4. Select **Save** to update your dependencies.

You can now generate native selectors for VMware technologies.
