# Use Spreadsheet Document

> Use Spreadsheet Document activity that opens a LibreOffice Calc spreadsheet and makes it available to child activities.

`UiPath.LibreOfficeCalc.Activities.UseSpreadsheetDocument`

:::note
The **LibreOffice Calc** activities package is available in preview.
:::

## Description

Opens a spreadsheet document and makes it available to child activities. The document is opened once and closed when the container completes.

This container is the recommended approach when multiple activities operate on the same document. It opens the file once, keeps it open for all activities placed inside it, and closes it when the container completes. The document is also closed if an error occurs inside the container.

When you place a LibreOffice Calc activity inside the container, its **File path**, **Resource file**, and **Password** fields are hidden and a **Spreadsheet document** field appears instead, already bound to the open document. You do not need to set the file properties on each child activity.

:::note
This package requires LibreOffice to be installed, and runs on Windows x64 or macOS 13.3 or later on Apple Silicon.
:::

## Project compatibility

Windows | Cross-platform

## Configuration

You can configure the activity and its properties as follows:

* **File path** - The path to the spreadsheet file (`.ods`, `.xlsx`, `.csv`) to open for the child activities. The field also accepts a file resource through the **Use resource file** option in the plus menu, which replaces this field with **Resource file**.
* **Reference as** - The name used to reference the open spreadsheet document in child activities. Defaults to `SpreadsheetDocument`.

Activities that operate on the document should be placed inside the container body. They automatically use the open document.
