# Install on macOS (Preview)

> Install UiPath Studio and UiPath Assistant on macOS with the UiPath Platform Installer package, grant the required macOS permissions, and keep the desktop clients up to date automatically.

:::important
The UiPath Platform Installer for macOS is in Public Preview. Preview features are not recommended for production use.
:::

On macOS, the UiPath Platform Installer installs **UiPath Studio** and **UiPath Assistant**, and keeps them up to date automatically. Assistant runs your automations, and is always installed together with Studio.

## Prerequisites

- A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later). Intel-based Macs are not supported.
- macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
- At least 8 GB of free disk space.
- Administrator rights, if you install for all users of the Mac.

## Install Studio and Assistant

1. Download the macOS installer package from the Resource Center in UiPath Automation Cloud.
2. Open the package and follow the prompts.

   :::note
   By default, Studio and Assistant are installed for all users of the Mac. To install them only for yourself, on the **Installation Type** step, select **Change Install Location**, and then select **Install for me only**.
   :::

3. When the **Welcome to UiPath** window opens, accept the license agreement, and then select **Install**.
4. Wait for the installation to finish.

**Result**

UiPath Studio and UiPath Assistant are added to your **Applications** folder, and are kept up to date automatically.

:::note
A Mac can have only one installation, either for all users or for you only. To switch, [uninstall](#uninstall) first.
:::

## Grant macOS permissions

macOS asks you to approve some permissions before UiPath can automate other applications. When prompted, open **System Settings > Privacy & Security** and turn on the permission for the application shown.

| Permission | Application | Why it is needed |
|---|---|---|
| **Accessibility** | UiPath UIAutomation, UiPath Assistant | Required to interact with other applications. |
| **Screen & System Audio Recording** (**Screen Recording** on macOS 14) | UiPath UIAutomation, UiPath Assistant | Recommended, for screenshots, image targeting, and recordings. |
| **Automation** | UiPath Assistant, UiPath Studio | Asked the first time an application is controlled. Select **Allow**. |
| **Full Disk Access** | UiPath Assistant | Optional, for automations that use files in protected folders. |
| **Microphone** | UiPath Assistant | Optional, for voice and audio features. |

**UiPath UIAutomation** is the UiPath component that interacts with other applications. It appears in the permission lists the first time you indicate a UI element in Studio or run a UI automation.

After you turn on a permission, quit and reopen Studio and Assistant.

## Install from the command line

To install silently, for example from a device management tool, run:

```bash
sudo installer -pkg <package>.pkg -target /
```

To install only for the current user, run the command without `sudo` and with `-target CurrentUserHomeDirectory`.

To turn off usage data collection, run the following command before you install for all users:

```bash
echo "UIPATH_CP_TELEMETRY_ENABLED=0" | sudo tee /etc/uipath-connected-telemetry
```

For an installation for the current user only, run `launchctl setenv UIPATH_CP_TELEMETRY_ENABLED 0` instead.

## Updates

Updates download in the background. When an update is ready, you are asked to save your work, and Studio and Assistant restart on the new version. You can [postpone an update](postpone-an-update.md) if your organization allows it.

Administrators can control updates through a configuration profile. For details, refer to [Configure policies on macOS](../admin-guide/configure-policies-on-macos.md).

## Uninstall

Dragging the applications to the Trash does not fully remove them. Instead, run:

```bash
sudo "/Applications/UiPath Connected/Updater/uninstall.sh"
```

For an installation for the current user only, run `"$HOME/Applications/UiPath Connected/Updater/uninstall.sh"` without `sudo`.

## Log files

If you contact UiPath support, include the log files from `/Library/Logs/UiPathConnected`, or from `~/Library/Logs/UiPathConnected` for an installation for the current user only.
