# Save Email (preview)

> Save Email activity that saves an email message as a local .eml file from Apple Mail.

## Description

Saves an email message as a local `.eml` file.

This activity exports an existing email message from Apple Mail to a local `.eml` file, and returns the saved file as a resource. The email message must be one returned by the **For Each Email** activity.

This activity only runs on macOS systems with the Apple Mail application installed and configured.

## Configuration

You can configure the activity and its properties as follows:

* **Email** - The email message to save. Must be an email returned by the **For Each Email** activity.
* **Folder Path** - The folder in which to save the `.eml` file.
* **File Name** - The file name for the saved `.eml` file. Any extension is replaced with `.eml` automatically.
* **If a file already exists** - The behavior when a file with the same name already exists in the target folder. The default is **Overwrite**.
  + **Overwrite** - Replaces the existing file.
  + **Fail** - Throws an exception if the file already exists.
  + **Rename** - Saves the file with an auto-numbered name, for example `email 1.eml`, `email 2.eml`.
