# Step 1: Configuring projects in Azure DevOps

> Create an Azure DevOps project with the Agile work item process to prepare it for synchronization with Test Manager.

Set up the Azure DevOps project that Test Manager synchronizes with, using the Agile work item process. Syncing test items requires an Azure Test Plans add-on, and project scope differs from Test Manager, so plan object routing.

## Prerequisites

* Azure DevOps account
* [Assign permissions to integrate with service hooks](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/devops/service-hooks/overview?view=azure-devops#q-what-permissions-do-i-need-to-set-up-a-subscription)
* Test Manager administrator account
* An External Application registered in Automation Cloud, scoped to Test Manager. See [Adding an external application](https://docs.uipath.com/automation-cloud/automation-cloud/latest/admin-guide/managing-external-applications#adding-an-external-application). Without this, the connection fails immediately with an "Incorrect URL" error, even when the Server URL is formatted correctly.
* [UiPath® Test Manager Azure DevOps Extension](https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=uipath.tmh-connector)
* [Azure Test Plans](https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/products/devops/test-plans/) - to sync test items with your Test Manager. Test Plans access requires a separate Azure DevOps subscription add-on, licensed through Microsoft — it is not part of any UiPath license and cannot be requested through UiPath. Make sure to validate the integration scenario thoroughly. Consider the following limitations:
   * Assertions cannot be synchronized.
   * Manual test steps cannot be synchronized. Azure DevOps stores test steps in an XML field (`Microsoft.VSTS.TCM.Steps`) that its REST APIs don't expose as structured data — this is an Azure DevOps API constraint, not a Test Manager limitation.
   * Test Executions cannot be set to status **Completed**, since they get locked in Azure DevOps, for results to be synchronized in parallel.
   * The scope of projects in Test Manager and Azure DevOps is substantially different and, therefore, requires detailed planning of object routing.

## Steps

1. Log in to Azure DevOps.
2. Select **Create new project** and configure your project settings:
   * **Project name**: Enter a name for your project.
   * **Description**: Add a description to help you easily identify the use of each project.
   * **Version control**: Choose your version control.
   * **Work item process**: Select **Agile** from the dropdown as your default process to support your Agile planning methods, including development and test activities.
3. Select **Create**.

## Result

Your project is added to your collection.
