# Moving from the Preview installer to the GA installer

> Move from the Preview standalone installer to the GA platform installer for Delegate: what changes, what carries over, and licensing.

- **Preview** is the early-access release of Delegate, distributed through a separate standalone installer.
- **GA** (General Availability) is the production release, distributed through the platform installer described in [Downloading the installer](installation.md#downloading-the-installer).

If you installed Delegate through the standalone installer during Preview, on Windows or macOS, move to the GA release of the platform installer:

1. Uninstall the standalone Delegate application.
2. Install the GA version through the platform installer for your OS — refer to [Downloading the installer](installation.md#downloading-the-installer).

Your chats and settings carry over selectively:

- **Chats** — remote chats carry over; local chats don't, since each installer stores them under a different path.
- **Settings** — only what's synced to the cloud carries over: model and effort choices, execution mode, custom profiles, favorite skills and routines, tool permissions, custom instructions, and follow-ups. Everything stored only in the local `settings_v2.json` is lost: theme, colors, fonts, language, keyboard shortcuts, sounds, zoom, screen-context and PiP preferences, default apps and browser profiles, pinned chats, plugins, local MCP servers, the local-vs-remote chat storage choice, and first-run flags.

:::note
Because first-run flags are lost, you'll see the onboarding flow again after transitioning.

If you want to keep everything instead of relying on the selective carryover above, migrate your data manually:

1. Uninstall UiPath Delegate. Your Delegate data stays on disk.
2. If the folder `%APPDATA%\UiPath Assistant` exists, rename it to `UiPath Assistant.bak` (or delete it if you don't want a backup).
3. Copy the entire contents (all files and folders) of `%APPDATA%\UiPath\Delegate` into a new folder `%APPDATA%\UiPath Assistant`. Copy instead of move, since the app still uses parts of the original folder.
4. Start UiPath Assistant.

Preview access to Delegate came with preview-specific pricing and licensing arrangements. Transitioning to the platform installer moves you onto the licensing model described in [Usage pool consumption for Autopilot, Delegate, and Cartographer](https://docs.uipath.com/automation-cloud/automation-cloud/latest/admin-guide/usage-pool-consumption-for-autopilot-delegate-and-cartographer).
