# Ask a teammate

> Share a link that asks a teammate for input on a Cartographer business process, then review their reply before accepting it into the process.

**Cartographer** works with one primary user who drives the documentation and redesign process forward. That user can request assistance from other users in the organization through **Ask a teammate**, as long as the teammate also has access to **Cartographer**.

Which option is available depends on the **New tasks** setting in [General settings](general-settings.md#general):

| New tasks setting | Available options |
|---|---|
| `Local` | **Ask someone**, from the right-side panel of the **New Chat** page |
| `Remote` | **Ask someone**, from the right-side panel of the **New Chat** page **Ask a teammate**, from a conversation drop-down menu |

## Prerequisites

* You have a **Cartographer** business process already in progress, in an open conversation.
* The teammate you want to involve has access to **Cartographer** and belongs to the same UiPath organization and tenant as you.

## Requesting input from the New Chat panel

1. On the **New Chat** page in a project, select **Ask someone** from the right-side panel.

2. Describe your request in **Your request**.
3. Select **Create link**.
4. Share the link **Ask a teammate** creates with the target user, through any channel, such as Slack, Teams, or email.
5. Wait for the target user to select the link. This opens **Cartographer** on their machine and presents your request.
6. Review their reply in your original chat, in the context of the business process.
7. Accept the reply into the business process's knowledge, or reject it.

**Result:** Accepted replies become part of the business process's knowledge and inform the current stage of documentation. Rejected replies are discarded and do not affect the map.

## Requesting input from the conversation drop-down menu

Available only when **New tasks** is set to `Remote`. This option summarizes the conversation's context for the teammate you ask, in addition to your request.

1. In an open conversation, expand the chat drop-down menu from the conversation title, then select **Ask a teammate**.

2. Review your request and the context summary **Cartographer** generates from the conversation.
3. Edit either field freely before sending, if needed.
4. Select **Create link**.
5. Share the link with the target user, through any channel, such as Slack, Teams, or email.
6. Wait for the target user to select the link. This opens **Cartographer** on their machine and presents your request and the context summary.
7. Review their reply in your original chat, in the context of the business process.
8. Accept the reply into the business process's knowledge, or reject it.

**Result:** Accepted replies become part of the business process's knowledge and inform the current stage of documentation. Rejected replies are discarded and do not affect the map.

:::note
The target user must be a member of the same UiPath organization and tenant as you, and is asked to sign in to that tenant before they can view your question.
