SAP Build Process Automation, Foundation add-on by UiPath user guide
These are the products, services, and concepts that you are most likely to run into when creating SAP automations on a UiPath infrastructure.
Studio Web
Studio Web is the UiPath automation platform that enables you to design, build, and test your automations using advanced UI Automation, Document Understanding, Communications Mining, and generative AI capabilities.
Studio Web integrates seamlessly with SAP Build Process Automation, streamlining the process of building automations in a consolidated developer experience. To get started with Studio Web and learn about its capabilities, check out Creating an automation from an idea in the Studio Web guide.
After choosing to create a new automation in SAP Build Process Automation by selecting UiPath, Studio Web opens in a new browser tab. To start working on your automation, see the following sections in the Studio Web guide:
- How to start an automations - read about using and testing triggers.
- Managing project files and folders - learn about working with workflow files and other files and folders.
- Adding activities to a project - see how you can find and add activities to your automation.
- Connecting automations to your accounts - learn about Integration Service connections.
- Configuring activities - discover how you can configure activity properties.
- Managing the activities in a project - learn how to customize activities to better suit your automation needs.
- Passing values between activities - learn about variables and arguments.
- Iterating through items - see how For Each activities work.
- Managing the data in a project - learn how to use the Data Manager.
Studio Web's interface offers you access to information pertaining to your SAP Build project:
- Open the Project explorer by selecting the
icon on the upper-left side of the designer to see a list of the workflows that are included in your SAP Build project. - Open the Change History panel from the
icon to see the changes made to your project listed in chronological order. - Use the top-level tabs to switch between Studio Web, your SAP Build project, and the SAP Build lobby.
When your automation is ready, you can perform tests by running them directly from the workflow designer. To learn more about testing your automation, see Running a project and Viewing the run output.
To publish you automation, select the Release button in SAP Build Process Automation. Publishing automatically happens when you release the project from SAP Build Process Automation.
Studio Web automations created in SAP Build are automatically linked to the SAP Build project and are executed when the running the SAP Build project.
Studio
Some activity packages are only usable in the desktop version of Studio. You can recognize them by the Studio Desktop
icon next to their name in the list of available activities. To see these activities, toggle the Show Studio Desktop activities button at the bottom of the Add activity window.
Adding a desktop activity prompts you to open the project in Studio Desktop:
- If Studio is installed on your machine, select to open it when prompted by your browser. The project opens in a new instance of Studio.
- If Studio is not installed on your machine, click the link in the Open in Studio Desktop dialog to go to the Resource Center in Automation Cloud and download it.
Much like in Studio Web, in Studio you can add the required activities, as well as save and test your workflow. To learn more about managing a project both in Studio and Studio Web, see Designing Cross-Platform Projects in the Studio guide.
- Make sure to use Studio 2024.10+.
- Make sure to use activity versions 2024.10+. Check out the Activities lifecycle page to pinpoint the exact required versions.
Orchestrator
SAP automation projects are supported by the Orchestrator unattended infrastructure. Unattended automations are processes whereby machines perform tasks on their own, without the need for human intervention.
You can dive deeper into all the concepts involved in running successful unattended automations by checking out these sections:
- Unattended automation - check out details on architecture, permissions, and roles.
- Accessing the unattended robot setup - learn how to use our proprietary setup tool to create a successful infrastructure.
- Useful concepts in unattended automation - read all about robot accounts, robots, machine templates, processes, and runtimes (licenses needed to run unattended automations).
- How is unattended automation performed - go through a break down of everything you need to ensure your automation runs smoothly.
Automation Cloud™ Robots
Automation Cloud™ Robots allow you to run automations without having to worry about provisioning, managing, maintaining, and scaling the underlying infrastructure.

Activities
UiPath® activities offer a robust set of tools for creating a wide range of automation projects. These activities are included in activity packages, and each package falls under a specific category, based on the area of automation it pertains to.
Using UiPath® activities, you can:
- Interact with software user interfaces.
- Automate common tasks such as managing emails, word files and spreadsheets.
- Handle document processing, interpret and extract information from various document structures.
- Create connections that allow for easy integration into SaaS platforms and third party applications.
- Administer IT ecosystems, from access control to infrastructure management.
- Create automation projects employing specific logic operators and expressions.
- Handle encryption protocols and database connectivity.
For more details, check the Activities guide.
UI Automation
The UI Automation activity package works in conjunction with Studio to allow you to interact with graphical user interface elements in software applications.
The required activity package version is 24.10.6+. So, the UI Automation activity package version should be equal to or higher than 24.10.6.
Before creating a new project in Studio, ensure that the correct UI Automation activity package version containing the SAP Connectivity SDK is installed.
To update the UI Automation activity package version used in your Studio project, go to the Manages Packages wizard, search for UI Automation and update the activity package version as required.
For more details, check the UI Automation documentation.
Limitations
The activities below, all part of the Persistence activity package, are not available for UiPath® Task Automations created from SAP Build:
- Start Job and Get Reference
- Wait for Job and Resume
- Add Queue Item and Get Reference
- Wait for Queue Item and Resume
- Create Form Task
- Wait for Form Task and Resume
- Create App Task
- Wait for App Task and Resume
- Get Form Tasks
- Resume After Delay
Note:
When using the Bulk Add Queue Items activity, make sure you maintain a manageable size for SpecificData/SpecificContent by including only references that facilitate further data retrieval. If the event size hits the size limit (1 MB of data), large properties may be removed from the related queue item events.
Action Center
Action Center is the UiPath central place for human-robot collaboration that allows you to handle tasks that require human validation or business approvals. It enables support for long-running unattended workflows, that require human intervention.
Long-running workflows are built to pause for human input, and automatically resume once the human task is completed. For more information, check out how Action Center works.
Action Center seamlessly integrates with SAP Task Center for the:
- Document Classification Actions, where humans validate the automatic classification performed by the AI models. You can use the output of this activity with the Wait For Document Classification Action And Resume activity to suspend and resume orchestration workflows upon human action completion in Action Center.
- Document Validation Actions, where humans review specific pieces of information that are automatically extracted by AI models. You can use the output of this activity with the Wait for Document Validation Action And Resume activity to suspend and resume orchestration workflows upon human action completion in Action Center.
In the SAP Task Center, you can only view the tasks and filter them based on the Action Catalog and labels.
