# Read Cell

> Read Cell activity that reads the value of a cell from a LibreOffice Calc spreadsheet.

`UiPath.LibreOfficeCalc.Activities.ReadCell`

:::note
The **LibreOffice Calc** activities package is available in preview.
:::

## Description

Reads the value of a cell from the specified spreadsheet.

This activity reads a single cell from a LibreOffice Calc spreadsheet and returns its value. You specify the cell in A1 notation, for example, `A1`. The **Cell value type** option controls the type of the returned value.

:::note
This package requires LibreOffice to be installed, and runs on Windows x64 or macOS 13.3 or later on Apple Silicon.

## Project compatibility

Windows | Cross-platform

## Configuration

You can configure the activity and its properties as follows:

* **File path** - The path to the spreadsheet file (`.ods`, `.xlsx`, `.csv`). The field also accepts a file resource through the **Use resource file** option in the plus menu, which replaces this field with **Resource file**. When the activity is placed inside a **Use Spreadsheet Document** scope, this field is replaced by **Spreadsheet document**, which is bound to the document opened by the scope.
* **Sheet** - The name of the sheet to read from, for example, `Sheet1`. The field lists the sheets found in the selected file, and you can also type a name or an expression.
* **Cell** - The cell to read in A1 notation, for example, `B2`.

### Properties panel

#### Options
* **Cell value type** - The type to return the cell value as: text, a decimal number, a whole number, a date, a time, a date and time, or a boolean. Defaults to **General**, which returns the value using the type detected for the cell.

  The selected type converts the value rather than checking it, so a whole number can be read as a decimal. The activity throws an error when the value cannot be converted, for example, when text is read as a number, or a fractional value as a whole number.
* **Password** - The password to open a password-protected spreadsheet file. Leave empty for unprotected files.

#### Output
* **Read cell** - The data retrieved from the cell.
